The --ellipsis flag replaces ... inside table cells with the Unicode
ellipsis character … before the table is reflowed. This ensures column widths
are computed from the final emitted glyph rather than from the three-dot source
sequence.
Literal dot sequences in inline code, fenced code blocks, and four-space or tab-indented code blocks remain unchanged. An indented code block must start at the document boundary or after a blank line, heading, closed fenced block, link reference definition, or markdownlint directive. This matches Markdown's rule that an indented code block cannot interrupt a paragraph.
The flag also preserves ... where the dots are semantically significant:
inline links and images, autolinks, bare URLs, link reference definitions and
their destination or title continuation lines, and filesystem-like tokens are
passed through unchanged. For example, a GitHub compare destination containing
v1...v2 remains a valid URL even when it follows its reference label on the
next line.
